Jin Shin Jyutsu

"Be drop the shoulders."

—Mary Burmeister

History

Jin Shin Jyutsu® Physio-Philosophy is an ancient healing art that was dramatically re-discovered in Japan in the early 1900's by a young man named Jiro Murai. Born into a family of physicians, Murai was none-the-less stricken early in life with a life-threatening illness that neither his family nor any of the medical practitioners of his day could cure him of. Eventually left to die peacefully in a cabin in the woods, Murai utilized various elements of Jin Shin Jyutsu to affect an amazing and complete recovery.  He never again experienced illness and went on to become a nationally famous healer. After his healing he devoted the rest of his life to further research, teaching, and the complete revival of Jin Shin Jyutsu.

Jin Shin Jyutsu came to the West through Mary Burmeister, who met Murai in Japan in the 1940's.  After returning to America, Mary practiced and taught throughout the US and Europe becoming the world's foremost teacher of Jin Shin Jyutsu after Murai's death in 1961. An extraordinarily dynamic individual, she eventually formed a world-wide organization which continues to train instructors and disseminate the teaching of Jin Shin Jyutsu to people of all walks of life.

Practice

Jin Shin Jyutsu is a gentle and profound hands-on healing method that brings balance to the subtle vital energies  of the body and thereby promotes optimal health and harmony at every level of the human being.

Jin Shin Jyutsu sessions usually last about one hour to 90 minutes. The recipient lays fully clothed on a comfortable massage table while the practitioner first holds energy points on the wrists and then selects certain of the twenty-six "safety energy locks" (specific areas of the body that are each about 2 inches across in size) to work with. These energy locks lay along important energy pathways that channel the "chi" or vital energy that supports and nourishes all of the body's components and processes. Blockage in these pathways creates a stressful and disharmonizing influence throughout the body/mind system.  By using the fingertips to gently hold selected pairs of these energy locks in specific sequences, blockages to the flow of chi are released and balance to mind, body, and spirit restored.

Self-Help

Jin Shin Jyutsu can be applied as self-help as well. I often teach specific self-help techniques to assist in maintaining or even furthering treatment results between sessions. Jin Shin Jyutsu self-help methods are simple, easy, and profoundly nurturing. They can also be learned in a workshop format or long distance over Skype.

Your Jin Shin Jyutsu treatments (and wisdom) have been the most valuable help I've received in moving through fear, anxiety, and stuck energy and preparing me for my surgery-- thank you thank you, thank you!
